New to Koala Sports? Here’s What to Expect

04.28.2025

So, you’ve signed up for your first Koala Sports league. Maybe you’re flying solo as a free agent, or maybe you’ve been recruited by a friend. Either way, welcome — we’re pumped to have you.

Let’s break down what to expect so you’re game-ready from day one:

🟢 Free Agent? No Problem!
If you joined solo, we’ve got you. You’ll be placed on a team the night before the season starts. Just keep an eye on your email and show up ready to make new friends (and maybe your future trivia team).

👟 Shoes Matter (Kinda)
Wear shoes that make sense for your sport (non-metal cleats for flag football, softball, and kickball; sneakers for volleyball and pickleball, etc.), but don’t stress — you don’t need to drop $$$ on specialized gear to play.

All Skill Levels Welcome
Seriously — whether you peaked in middle school gym class or you’re a semi-pro athlete, you belong here. Koala Sports is about fun, not perfection.

📅 No Practice, Just Play
We handle the games — not practices. Show up, play hard, high five, go home (or head to the bar with your team).

🔞 Adults Only
All leagues are 18+. Sorry, no toddlers allowed, even if they’ve got wicked athleticism.

🧢 What Do I Bring?
Most leagues include shirts with your registration (except softball), and we provide game equipment unless otherwise noted. Pickleballers — you’ll need your own paddle (but we’ve got the rest).

🤝 Show Up Early, Stay Late
Players often come early to warm up and hang out after games. Many leagues even have a sponsored bar nearby — because what’s better than a cold drink after a big win (or a hilarious loss)?

🧭 Need Help?
Each league has a commissioner and assistant commissioner on-site to guide you. Check out our “About Us” page to see who’s running your league.🎯 Just Do It
To quote Nike: “Just do it.” You’ll have fun, you’ll meet people, and who knows? You might just find your new crew.

10 Years of Koala Sports: From One Kickball League to a Whole Lot More

Ten years ago, we started Koala Sports with eight kickball teams, a beat-up clipboard, and the hope that people might want to relive recess glory days with us at Norman and Jean Reach Park. We didn’t have much—but we had unbranded kickballs, an Instagram account, and a printed Excel Spreadsheet with all of our registered players.
