Ten years ago, we started Koala Sports with eight kickball teams, a beat-up clipboard, and the hope that people might want to relive recess glory days with us at Norman and Jean Reach Park. We didn’t have much—but we had unbranded kickballs, an Instagram account, and a printed Excel Spreadsheet with all of our registered players. Somehow, that held it all together that season.
Today, we’re celebrating a full decade of doing what we love: bringing people together through sports. We’ve grown from that one kickball league into seven different leagues across five awesome sports—kickball, volleyball, flag football, pickleball, and softball—and we’ve had the privilege of hosting 150+ seasons for thousands of players.
What started as “let’s just see if this works” passion project has become a community. And that’s always been the goal. Fun is the product we sell, but community is why we do it. I’ve seen lifelong friendships form. I’ve heard stories of relationships and children that started with a random Wednesday night kickball matchup. It’s wild—and humbling.
Of course, we’ve grown up a bit. We’re thrilled to announce the third version of our website, launched to match our 10-year milestone. It’s faster, smoother, better, and – let’s be honest – way easier to use. We hope you love it and would love to hear your thoughts!
To our players who’ve stuck with us season after season—some of you over 50 times now—thank you. Your passion keeps us going. Whether you’re out to win the league trophy or just make it to a sports bar after one of our games, we’re glad you’re here. And to our newer players? We hope we do everything within our power to keep you playing in our leagues to celebrate our 20 year anniversary and beyond.
So what’s next? More leagues. More sports. More cities. More chances to build community through play. The next 10 years are going to be even better than the first.
